I have had the privelege of exploring some very remote places in Morocco over the last couple years. There's an ancient history here that is still speaking. When you drive through remote oases and see the ruins of old kasbahs it's easy to imagine caravans from long ago trekking from the Sahara to visit powerful Sultans and tribes that once ruled the area.
Right when you think you must be in the middle of the North African wilderness you'll come across village of Amazigh peoples whose only food source is what they grow themselves and their water comes from a fresh spring. Surrounding them is a wasteland but this spring brings life to date palms, olive trees and argan.
I can't help but imagine what it must be like to live in place like this. I'm sure there is no shortage of hardship for them, fully dependent on the land. And yet my heart longs for their simplicity. To know the place where I live intimately. For my mind to not be addicted to constant stimulation. Instead, to be deeply aware of the land, stars and the people I share life with.
And that's why I share these photos with you! May they help you slow down, find a sense of presence in your surroundings - with your people. A sense of contentment and awareness.
Many of these photos were taken with double exposure. This encourages a new kind of focus. You are drawn in and forced to observe more carefully, to see beauty in places you hadn't noticed before.
